Mr. Jenkins (of Proviso West), Ms. Llerena (of Proviso East), Ms. Tonon (of Proviso East), and Mrs. Watson (of Proviso West) were recognized during the 7th Congressional District 15th Annual Education Recognition Ceremony. They were lauded for their efforts as educators and for their commitment to the youth of Proviso Township High Schools.

“We value the work that these educators are doing everyday to support the learning and growth of young people,” said Congressman Davis. “Education is the key.  It is the foundation for a lifetime of achievement. The person who labors to educate generations and generations of people adds something invaluable to our society. We thank these teachers for their outstanding work as educators. They are doing great things in Proviso, and we look forward to continuing to celebrate their accomplishments and the accomplishments of their students in the future.”

On Saturday, July 30, 2011, the group of four teachers gathered at RUSH University Medical Center to join other educators from across the 17th District. They proudly accepted the extraordinary honor for their work as educators.

“This is a great award,” said Mr. Jenkins, of Proviso West High School. “For us, it's like winning a Grammy or something beyond that level. It's a great feeling to know that people appreciate what we do as art educators. I can't say enough about the passion Congressman Danny Davis and Assistant Ben Montgomery have for the schools in their district and across the United States. This award is for all of our students, the parents, our colleagues, and our administrators. They made it happen.”

Congratulations Mr. Jenkins, Ms. Llerena, Ms. Tonon, and Mrs. Watson! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising.
