Building Bridges to Success: PTHS 209 to Host Back to School Night September 22nd

Forest Park, IL...On Thursday, Sept 22, 2011, Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will welcome parents and students to a new school year with “Back to School Night.”

“Back to School Night,” is a highly anticipated annual event that gives parents, students, and teachers an opportunity to connect, discuss academic goals, and better understand each school and each class’ expectations. It also gives parents an opportunity to meet school staff, and become more familiar with school procedures.

“Back to School Night is an exclusive invitation to our parents,” said PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. “We want them to become a more integral part of each school’s operation.  We invite parents to come out and see what school is like for their students,  talk with our teachers and staff, exchange ideas and expectations, and really become a part of our efforts of improvement and promoting student success.”

This event encourages teachers and parents to build bridges and more positive relationships. During “Back to School Night”, parents attend school with their students for the evening. Each parent will have an opportunity to dialogue with teachers and administrators, take a closer look, and develop an understanding of expectations that have been set forth for this new school year.  It gives parents a glimpse of their students’ daily school life and an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the curriculum.  It also gives parents an opportunity to sign up for PTO and other parent involvement initiatives. For teachers, it is one of the best ways to begin to build that all-important home-school connection.

Doors open for “Back to School Night” at Proviso East, Proviso West, and at Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy, on Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you there!
