PTHS 209 to Host Two Events: Bring Your Parent to School Day Oct 4 Following Back to School Night Sept 22

Forest Park...On Tuesday, Oct. 4th Proviso Township High Schools District 209 will host one of its largest parent involvement initiatives of the year, “Bring Your Parent to School Day.” “Bring Your Parent to School Day” is an annual event designed to give parents and teachers an opportunity to connect, discuss class curriculum, discuss class goals, and develop a better understanding of overall expectations.

During “Bring Your Parent to School Day,” (from 7:50 a.m.-3:20 p.m.) parents follow their students’ schedules, chat with teachers, and get a closer look at their students’ educational needs and school environment. The event follows PTHS 209’s “Back to School Night,” on September 22nd. Both are designed to promote parental involvement and to support overall student success.

“Bring Your Parent to School Day is yet another opportunity for parents to come in, meet our teachers, walk the halls, and take an active approach in promoting educational success,” said PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart. “Parental involvement is critical to our students’ performance. We hope that all of our parents will attend. We want them to see what is going on in our schools. We want them to talk with our teachers and administrators, develop stronger relationships with our teachers and our schools, and continue to be active and engaged throughout the year.”

Studies show that events such as “Bring Your Parent to School Day” and “Back to School Night” make parents more comfortable coming to the schools and it helps parents and teachers form stronger, more positive relationships. When parents are involved in the schools, student behavior and performance improve. “Bring Your Parent to School Day” gives parents a glimpse of their students’ daily school life, and it offers an opportunity for parents to learn more about the educational environment.  It also gives parents an opportunity to sign up for PTO and other parent involvement activities. For teachers, it is one of the best ways to begin to build that all-important home-school connection.

Doors open for “Bring your Parent to School Day” at Proviso East, Proviso West, and at Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy on Tuesday, Oct 4th at 7:50 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!
